Yonder Alonso out of A’s lineup with sore knee

HOUSTON - Yonder Alonso was out of Oakland’s starting lineup Thursday after drilling a foul ball off his right knee the night before, but manager Bob Melvin didn’t rule out using him later in the game. Melvin said that the team is still in wait-and-see mode with Jharel Cotton for Saturday’s start against the Braves; Cotton left his start at Chicago last week after five-plus innings with a blister. The report on starter Chris Bassitt after his scoreless inning of work for Class-A Stockton on Wednesday night was good. Melvin said it’s possible that Bassitt, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, will throw another one-inning stint his next time out.
