City cancels Transbay Transit Center art project after delays, costs balloon

The City of San Francisco has canceled a multimillion dollar art project slated to appear at it's $6 billion Transbay Transit Center, after they realized it would cost at least $2 million over budget to build, KQED reports. The art installation, commissioned from artist Tom Hawkins, was initially supposed to cost $1.67 million, but had ballooned to $3.7 million and wouldn't be ready until after the long-delayed transit center opened.
