Roosevelt overpowers James Logan for Division 1 state title

SACRAMENTO — James Logan-Union City waited 32 years to get back to a state championship game, but Matt Mitchell wasn’t feeling terribly sentimental. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound senior guard for Roosevelt-Eastvale had 24 points and 14 rebounds as the Mustangs (26-8) rolled to a 54-45 Division 1 victory Friday night in their first state title game appearance. On Friday, the Colts simply couldn't handle Mitchell, who made 7 of 14 field-goal attempts and 9 of 10 free throws. The Colts played most of the game without second-leading scorer Ryan Padilla, who went out late in the first quarter with a leg injury and didn’t return, going scoreless. Rolling Hills-San Pedro 47, St. Francis-Watsonville 46: In Division 5, St. Francis missed two potential game-winning shots in the final seconds, and Rolling Hills won its first state title.
